| Advising handbook |
|
Welcome to the department! We created this handbook to assist you throughout your program. It will answer a number of basic questions about the department and the program as those questions become important to you. Your most important resource in the department is your adviser. The adviser is there to assist you in making decisions related to your course work and to provide guidance in career related decisions. Advisors are assigned to you based upon your interests. Thus, your adviser has insights into the careers that you might be interested in pursuing. The department is much more than classes. We have a number of social and professional activities. The major events include Communication Day and Career Day. These events provide students with opportunities to connect with professionals in communication. The department also sponsors a number of student groups. The Communication Association, Minorities Interested in Communication, and Lambda Pi Eta (the communication honorary) are examples of these groups. The more effort you put into meeting with your adviser and participating in the various activities the more you will get out of the department. This participation is what creates the community we all feel in the halls and the classrooms. If you have questions about your program or feel that there are things that would be helpful additions to this handbook, please feel free to contact me. Again, welcome to the department Handbook Table of Contents |
